Its all about discovering - the unique, rare and endangered birds and plants at close quarters. Exquisite seasonal orchids, very friendly birdlife that will come too close for your camera lens... We only have gentle ambles amongst a beautiful botanical forested garden alive with birdsong.

We guarantee that you will love our Ulva Island - the southern-most bird sanctuary in the world!

Duration: 3.5-4hours (includes a 7 minute watertaxi ride to Ulva Island Bird Sanctuary). Flexible timing is needed when birdlife prevents overtaking on the tracks....

Cost: NZ$110 per person (inclusive of watertaxi and Conservation guiding fees) Children under 12 years of age $NZ45 per child.

We meet at GOLDEN BAY WHARF for the 7 min water taxi ride to Ulva Island bird sanctuary:

Departure times:

October – April:

8.15am for an 8.30am departure - 12noon return
1.05pm for a 1.15pm departure - 4.30pm return

May – Sept:

8.45am for a 9.00am departure - 12.30 return

PORT WILLIAM Half day guided walk through:

"BUSH – BIRDS – BEACH – HISTORY"

This unique new half day guided walk (4-5 hours) combines the best of what Stewart Island has to offer. Starting with a 20 minute water taxi to Port William, a historic Maori and early sealing site, you will have the opportunity to see a variety of seabirds.

Once arrived at Port William the guide will lead you along the coastline through native bush and you will hear the stories of early Maori and European settlers. The other facet of the guided walk is interpretation of the flora and fauna of Stewart Island as you walk through stunning scenery. A variety of native birds can be seen.

Ulva’s Guided Walks’ reputation for providing an unforgettable experience will make this new walk a must for anyone staying on Stewart Island!

Rate: $150pp, min 4x people.

Prior bookings essential, weather permitting, appropriate clothing and walking shoes, reasonable fitness recommended.

Cancellation policy:
Cancellation by client more than 14 days before trip: full refund
Between 7 and 14 days of trip: 50% refund.
Within 7 days of trip: no refund.
